Drahthaar History
The Deutsch Drahthaar was created in Germany in the late 19th century by a small group of dedicated breeders who set out to develop a versatile hunting dog that would satisfy all aspects of German hunting in field, forest, and water. This group of breeders succeeded in creating a versatile hunting dog that took its traits from the best dogs of the existing coarse hair breeds, cross bred with the shorthair blood. These ancestors included the Stichelhaar, Pudelpointer, Griffon, and the Deutsch Kurzhaar.
Mission Statement
At Vom Rogers-Hütte, Central Illinois, our goal is to breed calm passionate Drahthaars with strong character: faithful everyday companions at home, yet hunt with industry and determination when asked to do so, no matter what the time, place, weather, or situation. A Drahthaar from our kennel will be your companion. We recognize the merits of a well bred dog that is brought to a hunt, and we only produce Drahthaars based on the standards set forth by the Verien Deutsch Drahthaar breed organization.
Welcome Letter
First and Foremost, as custodians of the Verien Deutsch Drahthaar, we intend to leave the breed just as good, if not better, than we found it.
Upcoming Litters
March 2012
Puppies from Greta and Leopold were whelped on 03-18-12, with 3 females and 5 males. We are still accepting puppy deposits, pups will be ready to go home around May 10th 2012.
January 2012
Greta v.d. Salzmarsch was bred to Leopold Vom Tapferen Herzen in January 2012. We are now accepting puppy deposits.
April 2011
Puppies from breeding Greta and Groll arrived March 11th 2011. All puppies have been sold. Please check back to see our future breeding plans.
December 2010
Greta v.d. Salzmarsch was bred to Groll vom Entenmoor. Puppies are expected in late February 2011. Deposits are now being accepted.
December 2009
Greta v.d. Salzmarsch was bred to Feur vom Bandorfer Forst, and the puppies arrived in December. However, all pups just recently sold. Please check back later in the 2010 year for updates on more upcoming litters.
