Drahthaar History
The Deutsch Drahthaar was created in Germany in the late 19th century by a small group of dedicated breeders who set out to develop a versatile hunting dog that would satisfy all aspects of German hunting in field, forest, and water. This group of breeders succeeded in creating a versatile hunting dog that took its traits from the best dogs of the existing coarse hair breeds, cross bred with the shorthair blood. These ancestors included the Stichelhaar, Pudelpointer, Griffon, and the Deutsch Kurzhaar.
Mission Statement
At Vom Rogers-Hütte, Central Illinois, our goal is to breed calm passionate Drahthaars with strong character: faithful everyday companions at home, yet hunt with industry and determination when asked to do so, no matter what the time, place, weather, or situation. A Drahthaar from our kennel will be your companion. We recognize the merits of a well bred dog that is brought to a hunt, and we only produce Drahthaars based on the standards set forth by the Verien Deutsch Drahthaar breed organization.
Welcome Letter
First and Foremost, as custodians of the Verien Deutsch Drahthaar, we intend to leave the breed just as good, if not better, than we found it.
